BEFORE OPTING FOR TREE REMOVAL, CONSIDER GUYING
Tree guying (the process of bracing trees) is a technique that consolidates and preserves the weaker parts of a tree. Bracing is a non-invasive method used to support compromised trees.
Bracing is required when part of the tree is cracked or generally fragile, but the tree as a whole is in good health and doesn't affect surrounding buildings or trees. Bracing trees prevents weak branches from falling and injuring people or nearby property.
The guy wire (hence the term guying) interlaces various parts of the tree and solidly links them to the polypropylene cables. The tree is inspected periodically as it grows to adjust the bracing. The guy wire supports the tree while maintaining the bracing of the weaker areas. The result? A solid tree without damage.
Stiff guy wire is sometimes used to reinforce the trunk and weak limbs. This metal guy wire is attached to the tree using screws or brace rods inserted in the tree.
Bracing trees is often used instead of pruning to keep the tree's natural shape and aesthetic value.
Contact Ascension Arboriculture for an evaluation to see if your tree is a good candidate for guying.
